UK SCHOOLS
Welcome to Challenging Violence, Changing Lives, WOMANKIND Worldwide’s Programme for secondary school students and their teachers in the UK.
The Programme - We aim to prevent violence against women through secondary school education. We aim to raise awareness and transform attitudes to stop violence against women. We belive that one important way of addressing this is by working on a better understanding of the role played by gender sterotypes.
The Challenge - Almost half of all adult women in England & Wales have experienced domestice violence, sexual assault or stalking. (British Crime Survey 2004)
Get involved - To help you Challenge Violence and Change Lives we have developed a range of features.
Lesson plans - A free CD Rom with PSHE and citizenship lessons for key stage 3 & 4. This gives step by step guidance to teach about gender stereotypes, sexual bullying and healthy non-violent relationships.
Stop Sexual Bullying - A free DVD is available that shows students taking part in a sexual bullying campaign in an East London school. Information and a Code of Practice to Stop Sexual Bullying is available.
www.respect4us.org.uk - This is an interactive website for young people to explore issues of violence that surround them. Explore the on-line space of Respect4Us
Research - We are currently working with the Thomas Coram Institute and five pathfinder schools to explore the how, what, where of education to stop violence against women.
White Ribbon Campaign - There is an on-line tool kit to enable students to run their own White Ribbon campaign around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25th November).
International Women's rights - Information about WOMANKIND’s overseas partners, to add a global dimension to your understanding of the issues raised in lessons.
