Campaigning in partnership: EQUALS
-
Are men and women equal yet?
-
If not, when will they be?
-
How do we get there?
-
What would being equals, equal?
These are tricky questions. They’re questions that women have been asking for hundreds for years. Questions that have changed lives and the course of history and that have been both fought for and battled against.
Although women’s rights have come a long way, Womankind knows that there’s plenty to tell us that these questions still need answering. Like the fact that women hold just 19% of the world’s parliamentary seats. Or that 75% of civilians killed in war are women and children.
That’s why Womankind Worldwide is part of the EQUALS campaign – a partnership of leading charities brought together by Annie Lennox to celebrate International Women’s Day centenary. You may have already seen some of the recent EQUALS media coverage.
Together, the EQUALS coalition are determined to make sure that this centenary is a cause for celebration and a strong push for positive change.
Annie Lennox says: “EQUALS brings together the expertise of some of the most respected and influential charities that champion women’s rights. A lot has changed since 1911, but there is still a long way to go. Gender inequality continues to permeate all sectors of society, from health and education to politics, employment and culture. The EQUALS partnership aims to step up the call for a more equal world and galvanise a new generation of men and women to work together to make gender parity a lived reality here in the UK and worldwide.”
