We are all very excited about the latest news from our partner Humanitarian Assistance for the Women and Children of Afghanistan (HAWCA). They have opened a third Legal Centre for victims of domestic violence in Jalalabad, in the eastern part of Afghanistan, co-financed by Womankind.

Selay Ghaffar, Executive Director of HAWCA, welcomed everyone to the opening of the centre and outlined the aims of the organisation, saying “We will endeavor to reach out even in the remotest villages of the area and save the precious lives.” Read HAWCA’s blog post about the new legal aid centre.

HAWCA become our partner in April 2011. It was during Womankind’s visit in May 2010 that we met these remarkable women for the first time. It has taken a lot of work and commitment to open the new centre, which was first proposed in October 2010. We spent time with HAWCA helping them to sharpen the concept and fine-tuning the proposal, helping them to turn their plan into a reality.

It is HAWCA’s tireless determination to improve the life of women and girls in Afghanistan that make us very proud to work in partnership with them. We’ll keep you posted on their work!
