This isn’t running, this is fundraising!
When I signed up to do the 2012 London Marathon for Womankind, I had never even gone out for a jog before. Running was not my game (or any sport for that matter!) but I’d always enjoyed fundraising. I relished the opportunity to raise the kind of money that bake sales just could not touch.
I trained over 10 weeks so I was at a level of fitness where I felt I could just about cross the finish line! I didn’t run the whole way round, and I didn’t do it particularly quickly – 5hrs, 28mins – but it was the most amazing achievement of my life.
I sobbed as I crossed the finish line not only because I had pushed myself to the limit, but because I was overwhelmed by the support of my family and friends and truly astonished that I had managed to raise over £2000 to help women around the world.
Please watch my final Marathon video, and I hope you might feel inspired to sign up for the 2013 London Marathon and raise important funds for Womankind. You won’t regret it – honestly!
