Anita RoddickWOMANKIND's thoughts are with the family of Anita Roddick who has passed away.

Through the Body Shop, which she founded in 1976 to support her two daughters. Anita supported WOMANKIND in many, practical ways. In the 1990s she gave us free office space - and, more recently, we received funds from the Body Shop Customer Club.

Anita was a passionate supporter of WOMANKIND's work in South Africa tackling Violence Against Women - including counselling for survivors, and legal advice. Women were always central to her vision, and Anita shared WOMANKIND's belief that women are vital to making real, long-lasting changes to communities' lives.

Anita Roddick's generous and committed support helped WOMANKIND survive tough financial times to develop into the thriving, international organisation we are today.

On becoming a dame in 2003, Anita said: 'I hope it will push me to be even more radical.

'Women in their advancing years are unstoppable and, as they become older, they are more radical.'
