Last year’s Three Butterflies Lunch
We held our our first Three Butterflies Lunch in November 2011. Our speakers were Jude Kelly, artistic director of the South Bank Centre and one of Womankind’s partners, Netsai Mushonga, from the Women’s Coalition in Zimbabwe. We were also delighted that Selay Ghaffar, director of one of our Afghan partners, HAWCA, was able to attend.

WHY THREE BUTTERFLIES ?
Las Mariposas, or The Butterflies, were the code names of Minerva, Maria Teresa, and Patria Mirabal, three sisters who were murdered by the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic in 1960. The sisters were born into a well-off family and had comfortable lives, but felt they could no longer ignore the horrors of the regime and bravely spoke out, costing them their lives. Since that time, the Mirabal sisters, and the butterfly image have become symbols of courage, dignity and strength for women worldwide. Please join Womankind Worldwide in supporting today’s butterflies.
