DEMUS (Institute for the Defence of Womens Rights)DEMUS experience in combating womens human rights violations spans 18 years.? The research it conducts is used to challenge violence against women and the entrenched discriminatory attitudes which sustain it.? Their aim is to promote respect for human rights and gender equality amongst urban men and women and the Peruvian media.? They also provide support services for women who are the victims of domestic violence, or whose human rights have been otherwise violated.
Through their recent pilot project in the region of Manta, DEMUS have become pioneers in facilitating the recovery and rehabilitation of rape victims.? The Manta project uses innovative and sensitive techniques to explore the causes and impact of sexual violence against women before, during and after the civil war.
Aurora VivarBased in Lima, this grassroots organization has 15 years of experience in female labour law.? It is dedicated to campaigning for equal employment opportunities for women in poor urban areas in Lima, La Libertad and Ica.? This is achieved through the provision of training for non-governmental organizations, community groups and local authorities.? Aurora Vivar also lobbies for womens economic, social and cultural rights in these three regions.
CADEP (Andean Centre for Education & Advocacy)CADEP has over 20 years of experience in promoting indigenous access to sexual and reproductive rights, and campaigning against domestic violence.? It aims to achieve this through increasing both men and womens understanding of the causes of domestic violence and its consequences for families and the wider society.? It builds partnerships between community groups, non-governmental organizations, policy makers and service providers, in order to strengthen their capacity to improve sexual and reproductive health policies.? In addition, CADEP seeks to provide greater access to sexual and reproductive health services.
Calandria (The Association of Social Communicators)Calandria works to strengthen the ability of womens group leaders to influence local and regional policy on gender equality and rights.? In particular, the focus is on communication, education and citizen mobilization and the region of San Martin.? Calandria also raises awareness of womens human rights by working with the media, seeking to bring womens specific needs and concerns to the public debate at local, regional and national levels.
