WOMANKIND Worldwide wants MPs to remember that the decisions they take every day — on international development, on foreign affairs, on defence and trade — have a direct impact on women around the world.
So you can put your views to your MP — and parliamentary candidates — in the run-up to the general election, WOMANKIND lists below specific ways in which politicians can bring positive change for women in selected, key policy ‘areas’:

· Ensure funding and resources for women’s organisations worldwide are maintained and increased through the Department for International Development’s Civil Society Challenge Fund — in particular, for work to stop violence against women and to encourage civil and political participation.

· Ensure that any agreement reached with the Taliban in Afghanistan includes a clear commitment to respect and protect women’s human rights. Women representatives must be included in peace and development dialogues and negotiations with the Taliban.

· Ensure that any responses to the current global financial crisis take the position of women into account, particularly those working in the informal and manufacturing sectors.
