Rural Women Leading for Change
Project: Rural Women Leading for Change – strengthening the monitoring, evaluation and learning system of Women for Change, Zambia
Location: Zambia
Duration: 1 December 2011 – 21 May 2013
Partner: Women for Change, Zambia
Zambian women live in one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world with extremely high levels of poverty. Women for Change is a dynamic and engaging women’s rights organisation which has worked closely with rural communities across Zambia for the last 20 years. It uses a rights-based approach effectively to increase the social and economic empowerment for women and girls and advocate with rural people at a regional and national level in Zambia.
Women for Change has used innovative approaches over the years to engage with men and boys, traditional leaders and policymakers alike. After the successful completion of a four-year project supported by One World Action and Comic Relief, a final evaluation concluded that Women for Change could be significantly strengthened by improving their monitoring and evaluation system.
What Womankind is doing
Womankind has taken forward the long-standing partnership that One World Action has had with Women for Change in order to build upon the impressive work that has been done in the past four years. Womankind will support and assist Women for Change to:
- commission an in-depth study highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of Women for Change’s monitoring system with recommendations for improvements
- create appropriate tools and systems to monitor and evaluate their valuable work
- train staff and community group members to use the new monitoring and evaluation tools
