Alphonsine Kabagabo


Alphonsine is the Regional Director of the Africa Region at the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, the world’s largest international organisation for girls and young women - with 10 million members in 144 countries. She was appointed to the post in 1998. In that capacity, Alphonsine is in charge of promotion and development of Girl Guiding in the Africa Region, which has members in 31 countries. 

Alphonsine has vast experience in working with girls and young women organisations at grass roots level, focusing on leadership development, advocacy and community development. She also has experience in working with government, UN institutions and other NGOs to influence changes on issues that affect girls and young women. 

Alphonsine has attended many international conferences, including the Beijing women conference in 1995, as a speaker and advocate for girls and women. She is also a trustee of SURF, a fund which supports the survivors of the Rwanda genocide.
