Every morning, Gloria Wonders If She Will Come Home Safe
Gloria Mutyaba, Programme Director of Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG), risks her life daily to support survivors of violence. She faces threats every morning—even as she takes her child to daycare. Men block her way, hurling threats in full view of others. “How will I navigate this day and come back home safe?” she asks herself.
Now a new ‘Sexual Offences Bill’ is being debated in parliament. If passed, FARUG fear it would:
❌ Weaken or remove protections against FGM.
❌ End criminalization of non-consensual sex.
❌ Deny lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) women the right to love freely—especially those with disabilities.
But FARUG are pushing back in the face of adversity. Gloria was able to buy a van to use as a mobile clinic with a Womankind grant, which uses funds from our kind supporters like you, to continue reaching survivors. Gloria describes the mobile clinic as a beacon of hope:
“This van is our new office! It offers healthcare, mental health support, wellness on wheels, and legal aid on wheels. This van is a hospital. This van is a legal office.”
