Leave a gift in your will
Remembering Womankind in your Will is a positive way to help our work, and make a lasting impact on women’s lives. We don’t know what will happen in the future and can’t always plan for what’s to come but gifts in Wills give us security so that we know we can support the women we work with whatever happens.
What your gift could achieve
In 2014 Womankind supporter Nancy left £30,000 to our work in her Will. The money was split between three projects which urgently needed funding, including one in Afghanistan run by our partners the Afghan Women's Network (AWN) and Humanitarian Aid for Women and Children (HAWCA).
Last year AWN produced a radio programme informing people about the End Violence Against Women law, including information about how women can access support if they experience violence. And HAWCA has trained 80 women human rights defenders on effective campaigning and using the law to bring justice.
A gift of £15,000 left to Womankind in a supporter’s Will has meant that our Ethiopian partner Siiqqee could support women and girls who are vulnerable to female genital mutilation and forced marriage. They formed women’s clubs, which give women emotional support and practical help, such as literacy classes and business training.

Frequently asked questions
Can I be sure my gift will be spent appropriately?
You can be confident that your support will be contributing to work that is genuinely making a difference and enabling women to achieve real change in their lives. Because we work with local women’s organisations, building them up through training and support, our work is long-term and sustainable, having an impact even after a project or partnership ends.
We do need to re-invest some money into fundraising, governance and administration, to ensure the work of Womankind and our partners is sustainable for the long-term. We ensure this is done in a cost effective way. For every £1 invested in fundraising we raise over £5.
Do other people remember Womankind in their Wills?
Many women and men leave gifts to Womankind Worldwide in their Wills. Each gift has been put to work transforming women’s lives in practical ways.
Are gifts in Wills to a charity tax efficient?
A gift in your Will to Womankind is tax free, so it can help reduce inheritance tax. Please speak to your solicitor for guidance.
What if I don’t have a Will?
If you haven’t made a Will yet, deciding to leave something to Womankind is a good reason to see a solicitor. Without a Will, your estate will simply be distributed according to the law, which cannot take into account your wishes. If you want a partner to whom you are not married to benefit from your estate, or if you want to say who you would like to care for any children should you die before they reach 18, this can be done by making a Will.
What if I already have a Will?
Adding a gift to Womankind to an existing Will is easy. Just ask your solicitor and they can update it for you.
What kind of legacy is most useful to Womankind?
You can arrange your gift in different ways to suit you. We’re grateful for any kind of gift. You can leave a specific sum of money or item, a percentage of your estate or something that you want someone else to have use of in their lifetime that then comes to us. The easiest way to do any of these is to speak to your solicitor. You can find more information in our information pack (above).
