“I ran the London Marathon for Womankind because I'm passionate about women’s rights and I wanted to challenge myself” Alastair

Rosie’s marathon

After coming to the Womankind offices to volunteer, Rosie was inspired to take up one of our places in the London Marathon 2012. This was despite the fact that she had never gone for a run before and only had 10 weeks left to train!

On the big day Rosie crossed the finish line after 5 hours, 28 minutes and 55 seconds. This smashed all of her personal targets, but best of all she raised over £2,000 to help Womankind’s work in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Thank you very much for your interest in joining the Womankind running team at the Virgin London Marathon 2018. We have a very limited number of Golden Bond places in this event and if you are offered one of our places, we ask all participants to pay a registration fee of £100 and to raise a minimum sponsorship amount of £2,500 (excluding Gift Aid, but including company matched funding if appropriate).

As your sponsorship money is vital to Womankind’s work, we ask that you only apply if you are confident that you will reach the minimum sponsorship.

If you have any problems or questions, please call 020 3735 5558 or email Esmerelda@womankind.org.uk

Declaration

If my application for a Womankind Team charity entry in the Virgin London Marathon 2018 is successful, I confirm that I agree to the following declaration:

  1. I understand that Womankind Worldwide has paid £300 plus VAT for each marathon place. By starting the Marathon in April 2018 using the charity’s place, I will be honour-bound to deliver the pledged amount of £2,500 whether from sponsorship or from my own resources in the event of a shortfall. Runners who fail to raise the minimum target of £2,500 will be required to pay the shortfall and will be added to a Low/Non–performers list with London Marathon Events.
  2. I agree to return all my sponsorship money to Womankind Worldwide by 30th June 2018.
  3. I acknowledge that I participate in the Virgin London Marathon at my own risk and that Womankind will not be held responsible for any injury or illness resulting from my participation in the run. I will undertake suitable training and consult my GP if I have any concerns regarding health or injury.
  4. In the event of being unable to participate due to injury or other issue, I understand that I must let Womankind know as soon as possible so that my place can be cancelled. If I cancel, I understand that it may not be possible to carry my place over to the 2019 event.
Declaration
“The training was gruelling but massively rewarding. At times I really wanted to give up, but every time I went back to the office, or looked at the posters and pictures on my wall, I felt inspired to keep going.” Rosie

Rosie made a series of videos to keep her friends and family up to date with her training, and also to encourage people to sponsor her. Watch her final video which she made after the race, hoping to inspire others to enter in 2013.
