Our supporters are key to everything we do. Each year they enable us to help thousands of women to flee violence, take control of their livelihoods and have a say in the decisions that affect them. Without you, this work would not be possible. That is why we are committed to being fully transparent and accountable about how your gifts are used.
Our Supporter Promise clearly outlines our guarantee to you when you choose to support Womankind Worldwide:
We will value your support
We appreciate all gifts of all values and promise to process your donation promptly and acknowledge it in line with your wishes. To reduce administration costs we don’t routinely send postal thank you letters for one-off donations of less than £5 unless requested.
We will respect your privacy
We will never share your details with any other charities or third party organisations. We will always respect your communication preferences and we promise to keep our records accurate and up to date.
We will respond to your queries
At any time you can contact Womankind via phone, email or post and we will respond to your queries promptly and professionally. We welcome feedback and regularly use it to improve and enhance our fundraising campaigns.
We will communicate honestly and openly
All of our communications will be honest and truthful. We will share stories of what your support is helping to achieve and provide a true picture of the difference it is making. Unless agreed otherwise, your donations will be put to use where they are needed most.
We are accountable and committed to high standards
For every £1 you donated to Womankind Worldwide in 2021-22, 78p went directly towards our programmes, campaigning and policy work, supporting women and girls to transform their lives. 16p was reinvested into fundraising and 6p paid for governance costs. For every £1 invested in fundraising, we raised a further £6.39.
We are members of the Fundraising Regulator and as members we follow the Code of Fundraising Practice policy and ensure all fundraisers, volunteers, external agencies and contractors acting on our behalf do too.

Gift Return Policy for Donors
At Womankind Worldwide, we work hard to ensure your donation journey is as smooth and straightforward as possible. However we realise that in rare circumstances errors can happen.
Should you believe that an error has occurred, please get in touch with our team to discuss your donation. Please email us at supportercare@womankind.org.uk or give us a call on 020 37 355558 and we will help in any way we can.
Situations where Womankind may return donations include:
- If an additional zero was added in error to the donation, or the wrong amount was processed
- If there is a technical error on our online payment forms that caused donations to be taken in error
- If you have double clicked on the online payment page and the donation had been processed twice
Donations will only be returned to the debit / credit card or bank account they were made from.
Womankind is committed to working in solidarity with women’s movements around the world to bring about lasting change in women’s lives. As a charity, we have a duty to use donations to further this aim. This means we are unable to issue refunds which would divert funds from the women’s rights organisations and movements we support.
Moreover, under charity law, charities are not permitted to refund donations, other than in specific circumstances. The Charities Act 2011 can be found here.
Situations where Womankind may be unable to return donations include:
- Where the funds have already been spent and refunding the gift would mean other programmes would lose funding
- If an appeal for a specific programme raises more money than the target. If the target is reached and no further funds are needed in this area the Fundraising team will work to find a suitable alternative to direct the funds.
- In the case of a force majeure preventing Womankind from meeting a donor’s wishes.
We are committed to the highest standards of legal compliance and we treat all requests for refunds with the utmost importance.
