Association for Women’s Sanctuary and Development (AWSAD)

AWSAD supports women to rebuild their lives after experiencing violence. They have a safe house with counselling, training, legal aid and medical care.

AWSAD was established in 2003 and is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members of society, particularly women and girls.

AWSAD operates the first women-only shelters for survivors of violence in Ethiopia, supporting hundreds of women, girls and their children every year. In the care of the organisation the women and girls gain the confidence and skills needed to rebuild and improve their lives once they leave the shelter.

They also raise awareness of women's issues and provide training sessions on violence against women and girls to community leaders and government representatives. This will improve responses to violence and make sure women can seek justice.
