The Gender Centre is committed to promoting and protecting the human rights of women. It works with both women’s groups and other organisations providing support and training in areas such as implementing women's rights, project planning and campaigning.

The Gender Centre was established in 1995 to make sure women's rights were included in development programmes in Ghana.

It is a highly respected centre for information on women’s rights in Ghana and has been recognised through by positions on high level working groups such as Ghana’s National Strategic Framework on HIV and AIDs. Their mission is to create a strong knowledge of women's rights through a combination of research, campaigns and projects on issues that are of critical importance, such as changing laws that discriminate against women and girls.

Womankind and the Gender Centre collaborate on improving women's participation in politics.
