I want my sons to learn that they should not make other people suffer

LudmilaDomestic violence is widely accepted in Bolivia and rural or indigenous women are  especially vulnerable. Ludmila has been attending her local Mothers' Centre for more than a year.

“I have suffered a lot of physical and psychological abuse from my partner. I am separated; I have three children, one with a complicated pregnancy and special needs. I tried to get him to pay child support by going to the courts and government services, but they did not really help."

“The services were expensive and required time commitments that, with children, are almost impossible to maintain. Eventually I just gave that up and came to the Mothers' Centre instead. I have learned a lot here and now I want to study and move up in the world to offer a better life to my children."

“I now know how to defend my rights for myself, thinking about my children’s welfare and educating them to avoid violence. I want my sons to learn that they should not make other people suffer by being violent and I hope they understand my work."

“What I have learned here has changed me as a woman by changing my perception of myself, by increasing my self confidence and my ability to understand my environment better.”
