Whatever situation you find yourself in, you can still do it. You’ve been given that right as a girl.

“Going to school has always been hard for me. I joined the Girls’ Leadership Club in 2010 when I was in the 10th grade. It has really helped me develop the self-esteem to know that, as a woman, I can do it.

A lot of girls would give up on education and becoming leaders but the club brought us together to help us understand that, through education, we can make a difference in society. You have to develop this knowledge at school.

When I started my school, I was struggling with mathematics. There were girls getting better marks so we started encouraging each other and eventually all of us were getting great results.

For me, this group has helped me to realise some things about myself. There was a time when I was hopeless, when I thought that education is too hard and I wasn’t sure if I could manage. But when I joined the Girls’ Leadership Club, I became a leader. I started learning a lot of things and that gave me hope. I thought, if the others can do this, I can. If there is something that others can see in me, I should see it too.

Sometimes when you are going through hardships, especially as a girl, you need someone to help you, to mentor you, so that you can still develop. Whatever situation you find yourself in, you can still do it. You’ve been given that right as a girl.

For me, it doesn’t end here; my story has to inspire other people. I really want to get involved with talking to other women and working on the projects to help them. I want to be linked to this wonderful movement. I wish I could go out there and talk to other girls who are finding it hard.”
