Stand with women in Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, a network of women lawyers is providing free legal advice to survivors of domestic violence. Your donation could support this vital work.

72% of women in Ethiopia have experienced domestic violence in the past twelve months.

Survivors often stay in their marriage because they can’t pay for the legal support which would enable them to get a divorce. Our partner organisation Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is changing that by giving free legal advice to women.

This essential service is provided by volunteer legal experts in their offices across the country, and there is a toll-free helpline which makes their services accessible to people who can’t get to an office.

When a woman is at risk of further domestic violence EWLA helps find a safe place for her to stay. They see 40 women a day, and the safehouses are often full.

We need your support today. Every donation could help pay volunteer expenses and to keep the toll-free helpline running.

Please donate whatever you can today. Together, we can support women and promote gender equality in Ethiopia.

‘I want to help make women aware of their rights and know that they can always seek help, and be represented.’  – Abebech Tebeje, Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA)

Women in Ethiopia are coming together to claim their rights and demand a more equitable society. Will you stand with them?
