Co-Chair

How do/will you put feminism into action at Womankind?

I will put my heart and soul into being a Co-Chair, striving to share and devolve power and resource to where they belong. I will listen to and learn from the amazing women at the heart of programmes supported by Womankind, to accelerate our path to a world where women, girls and people of all genders live with joy, choice and dignity.

Tell us about your feminist journey?

I was born a feminist or least that’s how it feels! I argued with classmates about why girls had fewer choices than the boys and with the teachers about the lack of good parts for girls in school plays. As a charity leader I have worked with incredible women; refugees; survivors of domestic abuse; learning disabled women fighting for the right to care for their children. I never stop learning from each and every one of their struggles as we battle together for their rights to be free, safe agents of their own destiny.

A feminist hero of yours?

My mum, Daphne, is my feminist hero. When I was 12 she took me to Greenham Common to join women in protesting the use of the base for nuclear weapons. She showed me the force of women’s collective action, questioned everything (why is God a man?) and believed in me wholeheartedly.
