How do you put feminism into action at Womankind?
I will continue to contribute to Womankind Worldwide’s work of moving the centre of the work to the margins and the collective. Women’s rights organisations and movements have been central in organising for human rights and freedom since time immemorial, so I will contribute to our continued reflection and actions on how we amplify their voices and disrupt the power dynamics that exist in our work.
Tell us about your feminist journey?
I do not remember a time when I’ve not been a feminist. From a young age, it was clear to me that I lived in an unequal world where women and girls were disenfranchised. Through reading and interacting with African feminists, my consciousness was strengthened, and I continue to learn and unlearn. Feminism helped me to express my voice, recognise my shared oppression and gave me the framework to navigate the world and do the work of demanding our freedom to exist and be.
A feminist hero of yours?
All feminists doing the work in various capacities, living and resisting are my heroes. From feminists, I have learnt how to show up, be courageous and consistent, centre the margins, self and collective care with joy as we disrupt the patriarchy.
