The 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 65) will be held between 15th – 26th March 2021. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year CSW is a hybrid event with the majority of participants joining virtually. The priority theme of CSW65 is ‘women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls’. The review theme, based on the agreed conclusions of CSW60 is ‘women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development’.
Womankind Worldwide is co-hosting three events and with events moving online, this year the delegation of women’s rights organisations, policy makers, funders and activists is more accessible than ever before.
Feminist leadership addressing VAWG during COVID-19: Voices from frontline WROs
17th March – 12pm – 1:30pm GMT
Learn from a diverse range of feminist and women’s rights organisations about their experiences addressing violence against women and girls during the COVID-19 pandemic. This interactive parallel event features diverse speakers will share their experiences and make recommendations on priorities for a post COVID-19 feminist recovery and in view of the 2021 Generation Equality discourse.

Re-building the social organisation of care
18th March – 1pm – 3pm GMT
Care responsibilities are distributed unequally among households, State, market, community, and between women and men. This bias is at the basis of other constraints which prevent women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life and is at the centre of the current global crisis. This event will recognise the need for rebuilding the social organisation of care, share best practices on gender-responsive services and make recommendations for the path forward.
Solutions: if the last girl is even further behind post-COVID the solutions?
18th March – 4:30pm – 6pm GMT
This interactive event aims to look at the structural inequalities exacerbated by COVID through the lens of the most disadvantaged – the girl in poverty. Through the lens of Agenda 2030 and leave no one behind, we aim to highlight best practice and share solutions.
Reframing taxation to fulfil women’s rights: a feminist taxation framework
23rd March – 1pm – 3pm GMT
Tax and women’s rights are entwined. The process of revenue mobilisation, allocation and utilisation matters for women as it often has an impact on the achievement of their rights. Speakers will present a bold new feminist taxation framework centring women’s full participation and decision-making, designed to ensure that all tax systems tax women equally in the realisation of substantive gender equality. Join the event to be the first to hear about this new framework including examples from Uganda.
