An overview of femicide: what it is, why it happens and how to end it
Through global analysis and statistics, this femicide publication provides a comprehensive overview of femicide – what it is, why it happens, and how to end it – with the aim of raising awareness and inspiring collective action for change.
Until now, there have been many barriers to progress – such as systemic patriarchal biases, a lack of intersectional data on femicide, and widespread impunity for perpetrators – but we call on decision-makers everywhere to take urgent action through comprehensive policy reforms, enhanced legal frameworks, and adequate support systems for survivors.
We recognise that women’s rights organisations and feminist movements across the world are pivotal in bringing about the change needed to end femicide. In the face of systemic failings, grassroots feminist organisations and movements are courageously paving the way for a safer world for women and girls in all their diversities.
