How do you put feminism into action at Womankind?

I intend to ensure conversations, processes and engagements around ongoing feminist work are relatable and contextual. This will reduce existing barriers that continue to challenge the building or strengthening of collaborative feminist work between the Global South and the rest of the world. I shall equally support and dedicate my efforts towards organisational frameworks that enable alliance building both internally and externally, to yield progressive feminist outcomes.

Tell us about your feminist journey?

My feminist journey is encapsulated by many things from my own lived experiences in a society that expects women and girls to live invisible silent lives to how I saw the world consistently disregard the women around me. You see, visibility is not a woman, ambition is not a woman, choices are not for women etc. Women and girls are subjected to impossible double standards making it difficult for them to live full lives. I started using my voice in high school, questioning authority and demanding better treatment. It is being able to play a part in shifting the way the world treats women and girls that got me into active feminist work even before I knew what feminism was.

A feminist hero of yours?

My foremost feminist hero is my mother, who I call the Oracle. My mother is a healer of souls who speaks life into things and has helped shape my voice. My mother doesn’t understand impossibilities and sees everything life throws at me like a dare. She is the true heroine of my life story. A true daughter of defiance.
