Valuing our team

By Womankind Worldwide

Under our strategy to 2030 – Our Feminist Future – we have five strategic goals.  The fifth goal is: Value our team.

By 2030, our goal is to have a diverse, international Womankind team that is living out our feminist, anti-racist and inclusive values within and outside our organisation. We acknowledge the trauma and stress of oppression and challenge the culture of burnout. Personal health and wellbeing has equal importance alongside effective and dedicated service to the cause.

This year, team members across Womankind committed their time to nurturing our organisational culture and colleagues have been facilitated  to work together remotely and internationally.

Self and collective care are crucial to powering our feminist work. We have been prioritising wellbeing in a number of ways. We continue to challenge ‘traditional’ ways of working informed by capitalism’s push towards unrealistic productivity and ensure our policies consider the daily realities of employees lives.

Hear from Iria Dominguez Reguera,  Programme Management Officer for AWESOME at Womankind on her experience of being part of the Womankind team

In what ways do you feel valued at Womankind?

“I never realised what it meant to be valued and celebrated at work until I started working at Womankind. Not only does my line manager make sure all my work is acknowledged, but there is a culture of mutual celebration across the whole organisation that makes me feel seen and valued.”

What is your favourite thing about working at Womankind?

“Being surrounded by like-minded feminists that share my same values.”

How do you contribute to feminist, anti-racist values being lived at Womankind?

“I try to bring my feminist and anti-racist values with me everywhere I go, and that includes the workplace. At Womankind, that means things such as being aware of power relations both within the organisation and with our partners, continuously improving our collective understanding on these issues, working to decolonise our practice, being empathetic and understanding towards each other through acknowledging that we do not all have the same lived experiences and being accountable to ourselves and each other.”

How has Womankind supported you to prioritise health and wellbeing?

“Thanks to Womankind’s flexible working policy I have been able to change my working arrangement to improve my work-life balance and prioritise my mental wellbeing.
