Siiqqee Women’s Development Association (SWDA) is a secular non-profit organisation working for the welfare of marginalised women and children.
SWDA was founded in 1997 by a committed Ethiopian woman with the strong conviction that poor women can control their livelihoods and their futures when assisted in their self-help efforts and become ultimately empowered. With time, other men and women sharing the same vision have voluntarily joined the Association.
SWDA’s approach to enable disadvantaged women, girls and children to improve their social and economic well-being includes: programs dedicated to fostering women’s capacity for self-help and enhancing their participation and ownership. Providing girls with access to education, training and critical awareness on basic social services. Providing women and girls with access to economic/income generating and self-employment opportunities and promoting programs that foster the productive and sustainable use of the environment.
