WiPSU has worked since 2002 to increase the number of women participating in politics and the local government. They do this by holding workshops to help women develop their leadership skills and contribute towards their professional development.

In 2003 during the Urban Council elections, WiPSU launched its first large scale campaign the "Vote for a Woman Campaign". The campaign aimed to encourage people to positively consider voting and actively support potential women candidates. The campaign has run a number of times since, working to increase female representation across all government bodies.

WiPSU has established community forums where women leaders and female constituents meet to discuss women’s issues. This makes sure that women's voices are heard and their concerns are acted on.
