Six months into the global funding cuts: disrupting gains made in women’s rights 

As multiple crises soar around the world, from Sudan to Gaza to Afghanistan to the archaic war in Darfur – millions including women and girls have been left in dire need of food, safety and shelter with their human rights stripped.  

In a time when support is vital,  instead there have been devastating funding cuts.  With the ending of USAID and significant reductions from European development aid partners, the world has taken steps back in fulfilling commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals. Amongst the worst ramifications of these events at a time of war, food insecurity, the immigration crisis and health crises – is deepening gender inequality, with  women and girls disproportionately affected.  

A recent report by UN Women highlighted that women’s rights organisations are at a breaking point from the funding cuts, with many being forced to suspend programmes threatening crucial lifesaving services such as ending gender-based violence and health care amongst others. 

As a funder and ally in the feminist movement, Womankind Worldwide stands in solidarity with partners by lending unwavering support through flexible funding and continuing to advocate for millions of women and girls whose rights are under dire threat. 

Here, we highlight a series of stories spotlighting the work of our partners and how at such a time like this they remain committed in sustaining the momentum towards women’s rights. We echo and amplify the call for sustained funding.
