Meet Womankind Worldwide and partners at the CSW68
The sixty-eighth session of the Commission of the Status of Women will be taking place once again this year from 11-22 March 2024 in New York.
Womankind Worldwide together with partners will be co-hosting various side events leveraging on the priority theme: ‘’Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.’’
We invite those attending CSW to join us at these sessions we are co-hosting with partners and allies. Together, let us champion women’s economic rights and tackle some of those structural barriers that continue to threaten its realisation for millions of women and girls around the world.

Session 1: Safe at Work, Safe in Society- Affirming Women’s Economic Rights through the ILO 190 Convention

About
This session will explore the realities of decent and safe work. It will highlight how women’s rights organisations in the AWESOME consortium through the #SafeAtWork, #SafeinSociety campaign are championing the ratification and adoption of ILO 190 convention on violence and harassment in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia.
Session 2: Challenging Corporate power to reduce poverty and strengthen human rights

About
This session will highlight case studies illustrating how corporate power impacts women human rights defenders – and will inform feminist movements about getting involved in the UN binding treaty to regulate transnational corporations.
Session 3: Zimbabwean grassroots women’s activism and leadership in addressing poverty
Date: Friday, 13 March: 8:30am, CCUN Drew
Hosts: Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe, Women in Politics Support Unit and Womankind Worldwide
About
This session will discuss experiences of diverse women in Zimbabwe resisting threats to women’s economic rights as drivers of poverty in the context of Covid 19 and the post-pandemic period. Through an interactive panel, learnings and recommendations will be shared from the five-year CARE project focused on women’s movement strengthening in Zimbabwe and the Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR).
Session 4: Intersectionality, Well-being, Enterprise: Advancing Gender Equality in Uganda

Through the WAVE II Consortium, partners will share their unique experiences and highlights of intersectionality and wellbeing within Uganda’s legislative and civic context.
Session 5: Rebuilding the Social Organisation of Care: a key to dismantling womxn’s poverty

About
This session will gather members of the trade union and feminist movements to have discussions on the unjust social organisation of care in societies built on the coloniality of power and the intersectionality of extracting women’s labour.
Womankind takes collective action alongside women’s rights organisations, feminist movements and activists in Eastern and Southern Africa and South Asia. We support diverse women’s rights organisations, representing the most marginalised groups – including LBTQI+, women with disabilities, young women, Indigenous women and women in the criminal justice system – to challenge inequality, at home, in communities and the workplace. We fund and strengthen these movements and advocate for change alongside them.
