Remembering Sir Alec Reed

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sir Alec Reed, a philanthropist, visionary and advocate of women’s rights- who passed away on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.

As the founder of Womankind Worldwide, Sir Alec recognised that women are a force to be reckoned with when they come together. This shaped our early direction and 36 years later we are still backing women’s rights collectively and heralding them to a feminist future that is just and joyful.

”On International Women’s Day, 8 March 1989, we launched Womankind Worldwide. Reed Foundation provided funding enabling the organisation to establish itself. Through the dedication of a large number of people, Womankind has come a long way in the last 25 years, and I am really proud to be the founder and a life-long supporter.”  –
