National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE) is an action organisation committed to sustainable solutions to Uganda’s most challenging environmental and economic growth problems.
It monitors government actions, conducts research, provides educational materials, develops science-based strategies, organises affected communities, connects other civil society organisations and international organisations, and engages government officials at all levels. Putting human rights at the centre of its work, NAPE serves as an important actor that gives a voice to marginalised communities and the environment of Uganda, building community power to shape their own development agenda. It influences national policies and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions.

NAPE’s Oil Governance Programme started in 2009 with monitoring of oil exploration, moving to political advocacy against oil extraction activities, and continuing to the advocacy for community rights and voices now that extraction activities have begun.

The main area of Womankind’s work with NAPE focuses on advancing the realisation of women’s economic rights, in particular women’s right to land and to an adequate standard of living. Our collaboration includes programming, documentation, policy development and advocacy to contribute to strengthening the women’s movement, including through eco-feminism, and support resilience and capacity for coordinated action at local and national levels and engagement at regional and global levels.
